STUCK WITH A Series Update

We received some great news the other day. Both of our first two releases in the STUCK WITH A Series are on Amazon top 100 lists. STUCK WITH A STIFF, our first release, made The Top 100 Police Procedurals. Awesome, right? But that wasn’t all…

STUCK WITH A SPELL, the second in the series, also made Amazon’s Top 100 Occult books!

Needless to say, we are super stoked that both books are doing so well.  We hope you are all enjoying our Halloween release! We had a blast writing it!

Happy e-reading!

Stuck with a Stiff is here!

Hi, folks!

Since I finally replaced my trusty old laptop, I’m diving back into the online game with both feet. It’s great to have a computer of my own again, but it feels even better to announce the release of my first book and new series with my awesome co-author D.D. Scott!

On Amazon

B&N Nook

Kobo

Smashwords (for Sony and iPad readers)

For Stuck with a Stiff – Think Castle and Beckett gone-country meet Betty Boop and My Cousin Vinny.

And for all of you D. D. Scott Bootscootin’ Books and Cozy Cash Mystery Fans, The Mom Squad joins in on the fun!

The Stuck with a Series is Castle gone-country with The Mom Squad, Betty Boop and My Cousin Vinny in the barnyard.

But this is no ordinary barnyard.

There’s a lot more than a crazy rooster missing from the chicken coop, a bad ass cow causing a bunch of trouble and a dog looking like a creature out of a storybook. There’s a stiff too. A stiff – as in a dead guy – in a snow drift near the chicken coop.

Things aren’t looking good for Nicky Blane, who owns the farm. He’s used to creating fictional stiffs for his bestselling novels, not defending himself from being framed for murder.

Bonus Content Included:

In case you missed D.D.’s Stuck with a Series Prequel – Stuck with a Schmuck – which gives you a  fun set-up to Stuck with a Stiff – worry not…because it’s included!

Now then…as I mentioned above, Stuck with a Stiff has a bad ass cow causing a bunch of trouble.

Her name is Beulah.

But here’s the thing with Beulah…She’s not from our imaginations. Nope, she’s alive, anything but well, and causing a bunch of havoc on the family farm. Here’s her official press photo:

Beulah’s one trouble-making bovine not to be trifled with.

Happy Ereading and Welcome to Our Stuck with a Series! – David Slegg

P.S. The Stuck with a Series is also available in Serial Novel Format in which you can get a chapter or two each week delivered to your email as we write them. Here’s how you can sign-up for that too:

The next book in the series is STUCK WITH A SPELL, and the first chapters will be sent out to our subscribers in early September, with a full release date around Halloween!

A Little Bump (or Splash) in the Road

A tranquil place to write, right?

I had a rather unpleasant experience a couple of weeks ago.

I’d driven up to my uncle’s lake cottage to get away from the farm to do some writing for a couple of days and had just finished uploading a blog post a few days early. As a result, I was feeling somewhat upbeat and excited about getting ahead on an ever-mounting pile of work and what I would be able to accomplish the following day as a result.

Once I’d confirmed the post had been uploaded, I leaned forward to scoot my chair out from the table I was using as a makeshift desk.

That’s when it happened.

I inadvertently bumped the table and my jumbo-sized cup of ice water toppled over…directly onto my cell phone, and worse yet, the keyboard of my beloved MacBook Pro.

Time stood still. I went through that momentary phase of not wanting to acknowledge that such a thing was possible.

I’ve done all of my work on that computer for the past 4-5 years. I could hardly begin to comprehend what it would mean to lose it.

Thankfully, the documents that were most critical to my work were backed up because I use Dropbox and Google Docs. Unfortunately, some of my personal files were not.

As I continue to look into ways to repair my computer and recover what was lost, I’ve had to make do with borrowing time on family members’ computers.

I won’t trouble you with the myriad of issues that I’ve encountered trying to make my normal workflow a reality with hardware that’s not really up to the task. It’s hard to fathom how much your life can get tangled up with the fate of a little silver box.

My poor laptop is at a computer repair shop and I’m hoping for good news. Through it all, however, we were able to finish STUCK WITH A STIFF, thanks in large part to my amazing co-author who helped keep me sane and the project on the move. You’re the best, D.D. Scott!

Beulah Adds to the Herd

If you’re following along with STUCK WITH A STIFF, then you’ve read about the ornery bovine named Beulah. This morning, the cow who was the inspiration for Bad Ass Beulah gave birth to a gigantic but healthy calf. The calf came out breech and had to be pulled out with a winch.

Earlier in the calving season, we had a calf born to another cow that had been bred to the same bull as today’s calf. That calf was even bigger and she didn’t make it. I will be blogging about that trying and difficult experience in the next couple of weeks.

Our hearts were in our throats today as we waited for this calf to get to his feet and start nursing. We were releaved when he finally made it. The first picture below is when he was trying to stand for the first time and the second is him actually standing and nursing. Happy day!

Farm Pic of the Week #5: Greener Pastures

We moved most of our cows to a new pasture earlier this week. They now have plenty of fresh green grass to munch on and a lot more room to roam around. However, the cows weren’t the only ones who’ve been ruminating these past few days. Their new pasture sits right beside the house I lived in until we moved when I was about thirteen years old. I spent much of my childhood playing in the creek that meanders through the property. I couldn’t help but reflect back on the course of my life and how writing has become my greener pasture. Telling stories and sharing them with readers is a deeply satisfying experience. I feel like I’ve finally come home.
